New Principal at Southwest

If you walk the halls of Southwest, you’ll encounter new Principal, Dr. Michael Favor. He greets students as they arrive and spends much of his day in the halls. A big part of his philosophy to building community is being visible and accessible.  It is a familiar concept that was shared by beloved former Principal Bill Smith, who suddenly retired before the 2017-2018 school year.

Favor arrives after last year’s interim leadership faced several challenges within the school and the community. He has a tall task in leading the districts largest and most recognizable school, but staff are confident he is the right man for the job.

He believes in the power of shared leadership and is excited to build on the excellence already in place at SW.

About his new role he says “Together, we can make sure Southwest remains a world-class school where every student has the opportunity to thrive.”

Favor most recently was interim superintendent for Monticello Schools and was principal of North and Cooper H.S.

He is also a member of the College Football HoF.
