About Southwest Foundation Hall of Fame

Welcome to the Southwest High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

In it’s 80 plus years of history, Southwest has not only been recognized as one of the top academic schools in Minnesota, it has excelled in athletics as well! In addition to it’s 25 team State Championships, Southwest has won over 250 City Championships. That’s more than any other MPS School in either category. There is a lot of celebration with these types of achievements. Accordingly, the SW Hall of Fame was created to annually honor the individuals, teams, coaches, boosters and families who have contributed to this success. Many SW grads also achieved remarkable success in athletics after high school at the college, professional and even Olympic level.

Please help us find and recognize those contributors by filling out a nomination that could lead to their induction into the SWHOF.

The 2023 Induction ceremony will be again at Southwest High School on Saturday September 30th.The timing of the morning program is the same as previous years with a 9:30 AM Social Hour and 10:30 AM 2023 SWHSHOF Induction Ceremony.

The 2o23 Inductees are:

Election of Inductees

The Selection Committee will meet at least annually to consider and vote on the induction of nominated candidates for that year’s class of inductees.

The Committee will strive to follow these guidelines, recognizing that special considerations may allow it to deviate somewhat from year to year.

There will be a maximum of:

  • 10 athletes to be admitted each year (although the committee will usually target 3 to 6 Athletes per year)

  • 2 Teams to be admitted each year (although the committee will usually target 1 Team per year)

  • 2 Coaches to be admitted each year (although the committee will usually target 1 Coach per year)

  • 1 Booster

  • 1 SW Athletic Family

  • The committee is not obligated to select inductees in any of these categories in a given year.

Induction Ceremony

An event will be scheduled every year to honor the inductees. The Committee will attempt to schedule the event on the same weekend as the SW Foundation Golf Tournament. Each member will receive a plaque to honor their achievement and a plaque summarizing all attendees will be placed in a prominent place at Southwest High School (although this may be adopted to an electronic display in the future).

Selection Committee

The Selection committee may consist of the following individuals:

  • Principal of Southwest High School

  • Athletic Director of Southwest High School

  • Up to two (2) members chosen by the Southwest Foundation

  • Up to eight (8) additional committee members, whether they be alumni, community members, SW coaches or staff.

A Chair or Co-Chairs will be selected by the Committee. The Chair or Co-Chairs will schedule, direct and facilitate all meetings.

Southwest Athletic Hall of Fame Philosophy

The Southwest High School Athletic Hall of Fame represents a cooperative effort between the Southwest Foundation and the Southwest High School Athletic Department.  It is designed to foster pride and spirit in both the alumni and the Southwest community.  Its purpose is to recognize athlete achievements plus contributions to athletic success from individuals, teams, coaches, families, and boosters. The Hall of Fame provides the opportunity to share the athletic history, celebrate the memories, and relive some of the special moments of the past with friends, teammates, and the community.
